Episode 200: VA Benefits Delivery at Discharge – BDD Program Explained
Service members who are separating and plan to file for disability compensation can file their claim before separation through VA’s Benefits Delivery at Discharge program. This joint VA-Department of Defense (DoD) program allows servicemembers to apply for VA disability compensation benefits between 180 to 90 days prior to separation or retirement from active duty. This timeframe permits VA to schedule C&P exams, review service treatment records and other evidence, and evaluate the claim before separation. Ultimately, this allows VA to reach a decision more quickly, sometimes as soon as the day after leaving active duty, eliminating the wait for benefits that many veterans experience. Tune in to learn more about who is eligible and how to apply!
