In the Persian Gulf War, veterans were exposed to several hazardous toxins and harmful environmental conditions. Gulf War Syndrome, also known as Gulf War Illness, is a term used to characterize the wide range of symptoms and conditions veterans developed from the exposure. VA created a presumption under 38 CFR § 3.317 to address the many unexplained illnesses occurring after the Gulf War.
