Regional Office Definition
Every state has at least one Regional Office made up of VA employees dedicated to processing veterans’ claims and appeals. Comprised of many workers, Regional Offices conduct the following activities:
- Adjudicate veterans’ claims and appeals
- Issue monthly benefits
- Issue retroactive awards (i.e., back pay)
- Schedule Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations
- Process mail (incoming and outgoing)
- Describe the claims and appeals process to veterans
- Explain eligibility requirements for VA benefits and how to apply
- Provide resources regarding other VA services available
- Share information about VA health care and memorial benefits
- Reach out to veterans, including those who are homeless or at risk for homelessness and older, minority, and women veterans
- Public affairs
