VA Disability Payment Schedule for 2027: VA Pay Dates
Under the 2027 VA disability payment schedule, VA pays each month’s benefits on the first business day of the following month. For example, benefits for January 2027 arrive on Monday, February 1, 2027.
When that day falls on a weekend or federal holiday, VA pays on the last business day before it, so some payments arrive at the end of the same month.
Key points:
- Payments for April, July, and December 2027 benefits arrive early at the end of the same month.
- Because of those early payments, no VA disability deposit is scheduled in January, May, or August 2027.
- The same schedule generally applies to VA Pension and Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC).

When Will VA Disability Payments Arrive in 2027?
VA disability compensation payments arrive on the first business day of each month in 2027, except in months where the 1st is a weekend or federal holiday. VA pays benefits in arrears, meaning each payment covers the previous month. For example, the payment on March 1, 2027, covers February 2027.

The table below shows the expected 2027 VA disability payment dates. VA does not publish an official annual calendar, so these dates apply VA’s standard first-business-day rule to the 2027 calendar.
| Benefit Month | Payment Date | Day of the Week |
| December 2026 | December 31, 2026 | Thursday |
| January 2027 | February 1, 2027 | Monday |

| March 2027 | April 1, 2027 | Thursday |
| April 2027 | April 30, 2027 | Friday |

| December 2027 | December 31, 2027 | Friday |
Why Do Some Months Have Two VA Payments in 2027?
In April, July, and December 2027, veterans will receive two VA disability compensation deposits in the same month. This happens when the first of the next month falls on a weekend or holiday, so VA instead sends that payment on the last business day of the current month. The early deposit is not extra compensation, but the next regular payment arriving ahead of schedule, so the following month will have no deposit.
- April 2027: Two deposits, on April 1 and April 30, because May 1 is a Saturday. No deposit is scheduled in May.
- July 2027: Two deposits, on July 1 and July 30, because August 1 is a Sunday. No deposit is scheduled in August.
- December 2027: Two deposits, on December 1 and December 31, because January 1, 2028, is a federal holiday.
- January 2027: No deposit is scheduled because the payment for December 2026 arrives on December 31, 2026.
Veterans who budget around monthly bills may want to set aside part of an early payment to cover the month with no deposit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this payment schedule apply to VA Pension and DIC?
Yes. VA Pension and Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) are also paid monthly in installments on the same first-business-day schedule as disability compensation.
Do I need to do anything to receive the 2027 COLA increase?
No. VA applies the COLA to current recipients automatically. The increase covers disability compensation, DIC, and VA Pension.
When will I receive my first payment after VA grants my claim?
VA generally starts regular monthly payments on the first day of the month after the effective date of the award, unless it falls on a weekend or holiday, under 38 USC § 5111. Any back pay owed for earlier months is usually issued as a single, separate retroactive deposit and not on the monthly schedule.
What should I do if my payment does not arrive on the scheduled date?
First, check your VA payment history and confirm your direct deposit information is current. A closed bank account or a recent account change can delay a deposit. If your information is correct and the payment is still missing, contact VA directly.
Are COLA Adjustments Enough?
We’re conducting a national survey on how household costs affect veterans, what expenses matter most, and where veterans turn for support. The results will be published in a national report, and your answers will help shape it.
Whether your budget is stretched thin or holding steady, your experience counts. The survey takes about 5 minutes, and every response is anonymous.
