2023 CCK Child of an American Veteran Scholarship Winner: Isaiah Chavez
CCK Law: Our Vital Role in Veterans Law
Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick (CCK) is pleased to announce Mr. Isaiah Chavez, of Texas, as the winner of our Child of an American Veteran Scholarship for 2023.
About the Scholarship Winner
From an early age, Isaiah Chavez recognized that the military, in particular the Marine Corps, played an integral role in his life. Chavez’s father, following in the footsteps of his own father (Isaiah’s grandfather), left for the Marine Corps when he was only six months old, during the height of the war in Iraq. Understanding the sacrifice his father was making, both for his family and for our country, Chavez has always admired his dad and considers him his hero.
In his application essay, Chavez attributes much of his “personal character” to his father and the way his “Marine Corps training and molding” carried over into family life. He recalls how, throughout his structured and disciplined upbringing, his dad focused on raising children who “understood the importance of time and who were respectful to everyone and everything.” From his father Chavez also learned the value of hard work and adaptivity, as well as gained an understanding of the impacts of his actions (and inactions).
“I think in the end he is a better man and better father because of his Marine Corps service. I am a better person because of my father and his Marine Corps influence.”
Mr. Chavez plans to pursue his bachelor’s degree in Business Management before pursuing his ultimate dream of becoming a lawyer. Upon obtaining his law degree, Chavez aspires to open his own firm dedicated to providing pro bono legal services for vulnerable individuals in his hometown of El Paso, Texas.
