Each position has a unique interview process.  Some roles may require a phone interview, a virtual interview, an in-person interview, and/or a work or writing sample.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare for an upcoming interview:

Phone Interview

The hiring process often begins with a preliminary call with a member of the hiring team.  This call is typically an opportunity for you to learn more about the logistics of the role to ensure that it aligns with your goals.  Before your phone interview:

  • Provide the best phone number you can be reached at.
  • Ensure you are in a quiet place without background noise so the interviewer can hear you clearly.
  • Turn “Call Waiting” off to avoid any disruptions.
  • If a phone interview is scheduled in advance, be prepared.
  • If the phone call is not scheduled in advance and you are unable to give the interviewer your full attention when they call, ask the interviewer to call back at specific time.

Virtual Interview

The virtual interview allows you to meet members of the hiring team and get more familiar with the position without traveling to the office.  Some helpful tips for your virtual interview include:

  • Be early, just as you would for an in-person interview.
  • Research who your interviewer will be and have specific questions ready.
  • Find a quiet space free of distractions.
  • Test your sound and camera ahead of time to avoid delays and complications.

In-Person Interview

An in-person interview allows you to better understand the work culture and in-office environment where you might be working.

  • Be sure to arrive early.
  • Research parking options ahead of time.
  • Plan to be in the office lobby at least 10 to 15 minutes before your interview.
    • Be prepared to wait until the start of your interview. This is a great time to get out your nerves, have some water, and review your application and any questions you plan to ask.
  • It is also essential to bring your application materials, your list of references, a pen, paper, and anything else you may need.
  • Do not forget to send any required materials to the hiring manager or Human Resources contact prior to your scheduled interview.
