A day in the life of a Claims Advocate

CCK Law: Our Vital Role in Veterans Law

The Claims Advocate role is case-development focused. It primarily involves reviewing documents, conducting legal research, and compiling case strategy plans.

      Starting Your Day

A Claims Advocate begins their day by reviewing their task list for any outstanding tasks and messages from team members. A Claims Advocate then organizes their tasks for the day based on the needs of their team, ensuring they are prioritizing any urgent deadlines.

      Typical Responsibilities of the Role

On a day-to-day basis, the Claims Advocate’s primary responsibilities include reviewing documents and drafting legal strategy plans.

When reviewing documents, a Claims Advocate will assess medical examination reports and other documents in client files to determine their relevance to strategy plans and to identify favorable evidence.

They also draft legal strategy and development plans using the information found in client files, most of which comes from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Claims Advocate will review all evidence within the client’s file with an investigative eye, attention to detail, and thoroughness. Based on this evidentiary review, they identify possible theories for securing VA benefits and the necessary development steps that will help to win those benefits.

Following the completion of these tasks, the Claims Advocate then submits their work to a senior-level claims advocate for peer review and feedback.

Throughout these daily responsibilities, the Claims Advocate keeps case files updated and organized in order to help drive strategy forward. The Claims Advocate’s responsibilities require keen attention to detail, skilled communication, and the ability to adapt to any challenges that arise.

      Managing Feedback

Peer review is an essential part of being a Claims Advocate at CCK Law. Following the submission of their work to a senior-level Claims Advocate, a Claims Advocate often, if not always, receives feedback and edits on the work they have submitted. Using this feedback, a Claims Advocate will revise their work and resubmit until it is passed along to the Lead Advocates of the team. This constant feedback process teaches Claims Advocates the legal strategies and development steps that result in maximum benefits for clients—knowledge that they can apply moving forward.
