CCK Partner Robert Chisholm Participates as Judge in Moot Court Competition
CCK Founding Partner 2017 National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition (NVLMCC). It is the premier veterans law school competition in the country and is sponsored by the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims Bar Association, and the George Washington Law School.
Robert Chisholm Acts as Judge in Competition
The competition, now in its ninth year, hosts teams of students from all around the country in Washington D.C. to argue before a panel of seasoned veterans lawyers and judges. For the 2017 competition, Robert Chisholm participated as a judge, hearing oral arguments from the teams and helping to decide the cases in the semifinal round of the competition.
Robert Chisholm served on the panel in the semifinal rounds with Gregory Block, clerk of the Court at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and Mary Ann Flynn, Chief Counsel of the Veterans Court Litigation Group at VA’s Office of General Counsel.
More on the Competition
The 2017 competition included 19 teams from 16 law schools, with up to two teams of two students per American Bar Association-approved law school. NVLMCC was created to simulate a real court experience, to include documents and evidence similar to those found in a real-life Veterans Law case. The panels of judges hear oral arguments from the teams, and the final round of the competition is judged by a panel of judges from the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in the CAVC courtroom in Washington D.C. The result is an environment that feels akin to that of the actual courtroom experience, and law students get hands-on experience writing briefs and arguing cases in front of the court.
Schools across the country participated in the competition, including: Baylor Law School, Brooklyn Law School, Elon University School of Law, Emory University School of Law, Florida Coastal School of Law, the George Washington University Law School, J. Reuben Clark Law School BYU, New York Law School, Penn State Law, South Texas College of Law Houston, Stetson University College of Law, Syracuse University College of Law, University of Denver Sturm College of Law, University of Florida Levin School of Law, Widener University School of Law, and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
