Episode 43: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Claims

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) refers to brain dysfunction caused by an outside force, usually a violent blow to the head. TBIs are becoming increasingly common among military servicemembers and veterans as they experience traumatic events such as IED blasts, gunshot wounds, car accidents, and more.

Importantly, veterans can receive VA disability benefits for TBIs that are due to their time in service. After suffering a traumatic brain injury, symptoms manifest cognitively, physically, behaviorally/emotionally, or subjectively. VA initially diagnoses TBIs as mild, moderate, or severe and then assigns a disability rating based on the existing residuals of the injury.
