VA Funds New Studies to Use Million Veteran Program Data
The VA has announced four new studies that will be conducted to answer questions regarding heart disease, kidney disease, and substance abuse in veterans. The studies will use data from the VA’s Million Veteran Program, a national and voluntary research program funded by the VA’s Office of Research and Development. The program aims to partner with veterans receiving healthcare in the VA system and examines how genes impact overall health. This program already has enrolled more than 390,000 veterans and has built a large database of information that will be very beneficial to the new studies. The new research studies will also include understudied populations such as African American and Hispanic veteran populations. The new studies will further explore common chronic illnesses that veterans face, and ultimately establish new treatments.
