Senate committee moves forward with VA appeals reform bill

The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee unanimously approved a bill on Wednesday (June 28, 2017) that aims to completely overhaul the current appeals process for benefits claims at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The bill, passed by the House on May 22, would similarly restructure the Veterans’ Benefits Administration (VBA) to allow veterans to choose from three different appeals “tracks.”

Called The Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act of 2017, or S. 1024, the bill will now move to the Senate floor, where all Senate members will vote on it.
